Job Overview
Nuffield Health, the UK’s largest Healthcare Charity, is seeking a Senior Theatre Practitioner – Anaesthetics to join our award-winning team at York Hospital. This is a permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours per week) with a competitive salary of £45,000 per annum, dependent on experience. The successful candidate will be based at our modern facility on Haxby Road, York, where we provide exceptional healthcare services to our community.

Main Duties of the Job
As a Senior Theatre Practitioner in Anaesthetic at our hospital, you will play a crucial role in our surgical team. Your responsibilities will include working with leading consultants and like-minded professionals, enjoying a varied caseload with state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and facilities. You will supervise, support, and develop junior members of staff, creating high-quality care and patient experiences that are clinically effective and evidence-based.
Core Clinical Responsibilities
Your primary duties will involve ensuring the safe administration of anaesthetics and monitoring vital signs throughout surgical procedures. You will participate in maintaining a sterile operating environment and adhering to all safety protocols. Collaborating closely with anaesthetists and surgical teams, you’ll help ensure optimal patient outcomes and interact closely with colleagues on the ward. You’ll also be part of the senior theatre team, coordinating the department and participating in the on-call rota.
Surgical Services
Our theatres deliver a comprehensive and versatile surgical service encompassing orthopaedics, gynaecology, general surgery, vascular procedures such as varicose vein treatment, minor plastics, spinal surgery, maxillofacial work, ophthalmic surgery, ENT, and a dedicated pain service. This broad clinical portfolio enables the department to support a wide range of elective activity, ensuring patients receive high-quality, specialist care across multiple disciplines.
Qualifications Required
Essential qualifications include registration with the appropriate governing body and bringing the qualifications and experience relevant to your registration, including NMC or HCPC. You must possess post-registration experience and be a team player across departments with a passion for exceptional patient care. Your professional registration must be current and valid for practice in the UK.
Essential Experience
You must have significant post-registration experience as a Theatre Practitioner or ODP in Anaesthetic settings. The ideal candidate will be alert, focused, detail-oriented, and empathetic, with a proven track record of working in multidisciplinary teams. Experience in supervising junior staff and participating in developing clinical practices would be highly advantageous for this senior position.
