About the Position
West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Rheumatologist to join our innovative team. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates wishing to pursue a career in Rheumatology within the UK’s National Health Service.
The Trust is advertising for 1.5 whole time equivalent (WTE) positions, with post-holders expected to work with colleagues to support and develop Rheumatology services for the local population. These positions operate across our three sites: Watford General Hospital, St Albans City Hospital, and Hemel Hempstead General Hospital.
With a new hospital planned for Watford and work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital, this is an exciting time to join our organization. We are building on the success of our award-winning virtual hospital and re-imagining models of care, working closely with partners and making the most of advances in digital healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work across our three hospital sites and will be expected to perform approximately 5 outpatient clinics per week, provide intermittent inpatient care for GIM patients, conduct electronic triaging, and provide advice & guidance. There is also potential for Dexa reporting within our Dexa service.
The post-holder will work closely with other Consultants, Resident Doctors, Nursing staff, Dexa Technicians, Managers, Medical Secretaries, and Administrative staff across the hospital sites to deliver clinical services, participate in clinical governance, and support clinical leadership to enhance patient safety and experience.
Candidates will be required to have regular contact with patients, their carers/relatives, and General Practitioners as part of their daily responsibilities.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this position, applicants must hold full GMC registration and be on the GMC specialist register for rheumatology. MRCP (UK) is required, and completion of (or being within 6 months of obtaining) Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) in Rheumatology/GIM is also essential.
While not essential, having a BSc, MD, or PhD qualification would be considered advantageous for this role.
The post is appointable while the job description is pending approval by the royal college, providing an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to establish themselves in the UK healthcare system.
