Job Overview
South West London and St Georges Mental Health NHS Trust is seeking a consultant psychiatrist for the South West Merton Integrated Recovery Hub. This is an established post that has become available due to the resignation of the substantive postholder. This is an excellent opportunity for an energetic and enthusiastic consultant psychiatrist to join a dynamic team.
The South West Merton Integrated Recovery Hub (IRH) is one of three such teams in the London Borough of Merton, providing treatment and care for individuals with more complex and enduring mental health needs. The position offers a competitive salary with London Zone Allowance included.
Main Responsibilities
The postholder will provide medical and clinical leadership to the South West Merton Integrated Recovery Hub within Adult Mental Health Services for Merton. The South West Merton IRH works with internal GP alignment and operates alongside other key services including:
- Merton Primary Care Liaison Service (single point of access for community referrals)
- Merton Home Treatment Team
- Early Intervention in Psychosis Team (Sutton and Merton EIS)
- Complex Needs Service for people with Personality Disorder (Sutton and Merton CNS)
- Merton Talking Therapies service (IAPT and wellbeing services)
The post will be managerially/operationally accountable to the Clinical Director for the Community (adult) Service Line and responsible to the Associate Clinical Director for the borough. The Consultant will need Section 12(2) approval of the Mental Health Act and Approved Clinician status.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Primary Medical degree
- Full GMC registration
- MRCPsych, or equivalent
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register for Psychiatry or eligible for such inclusion within three months of completing CCT
- Section 12(2) approval of the Mental Health Act
Desirable Qualifications
- Qualification in a talking therapy such as CBT, DBT or MBT
- Qualifications in change management and service development skills
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
Essential Knowledge and Experience
- Completed minimum of three years full-time training in approved higher psychiatric training scheme
- Detailed knowledge of main treatment approaches for severe mental illness including psychopharmacological interventions
Desirable Knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge and experience of the CPA process, risk assessment and risk management
- Experience of teaching medical and non-medical staff, including those who may not have formal qualifications
Audit and Management
Essential:
- Commitment to developing practice through clinical audit and/or research
- Commitment to working with allied agencies including carer’s groups and local charities
Desirable:
- Experience of service planning and development
- Experience of working with third sector partners
Research and Publications
Essential: Evidence of participation in research and outcomes of studies
Desirable:
- Higher degree in research, completion of a research project and evidence of its dissemination
- Publication in a peer-reviewed journal
Teaching
Essential: Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate psychiatry
Desirable:
- Teaching Qualification
- Evidence of good feedback from students
