About the Position
Imperial College London is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Research Fellow in Respiratory Viral Infections to join our research team. This fixed-term, full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging from £52,655 to £65,048 per annum and is based at our London campus. The successful candidate will be instrumental in investigating immunity in clinical volunteer studies involving SARS-CoV-2, influenza and RSV human infection challenge and vaccination.

Job Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated clinician in training (Internal Medicine/Specialty Registrar Grade or equivalent) with an interest in infectious diseases and vaccines. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on respiratory viral infections while working alongside world-class researchers and clinicians.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work closely with research nurses, clinical programme manager, other clinical fellows and laboratory scientists to set up and implement SARS-CoV-2 human challenge studies. You will be responsible for identifying determinants of susceptibility and protection against breakthrough infection while managing the clinical studies. This includes working with research nurses and other clinicians to recruit and screen volunteers, administer virus, and obtain samples.
Clinical Study Delivery
Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with the setup and day-to-day management and delivery of respiratory virus human challenge and other experimental vaccination or infection studies. You will also assist with recruitment and screening of volunteers, collate and review clinical investigations for eligibility assessment, and provide direct clinical care to study participants.
Research Coordination
You will coordinate the development of study protocols and associated documentation, prepare safety reports for the data safety monitoring committee, and ensure adherence to study protocols and compliance with regulatory requirements. Working closely with the clinical team, you’ll help ensure all clinical research conducted is compliant with Good Clinical Practice.
Academic Development
This position offers opportunities to participate in the analysis of immune responses using cellular and molecular immunology techniques if desired. You will also be involved in training study associated personnel, troubleshooting issues, and identifying further research themes that may be developed within the studies.
Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications
You must hold a medical degree with current GMC registration. This is a non-negotiable requirement for this clinical research position.
Desirable Qualifications
While not mandatory, possession of Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent would be advantageous. Additionally, demonstrated ability to interact effectively with other clinicians, nurses and healthcare professionals is highly valued.
Essential Experience
Candidates must have significant experience in the management of general medical problems, medical emergencies and respiratory infections. You should also demonstrate proven ability to interact professionally with other clinicians, nurses and healthcare team members.
Desirable Experience
Additional experience that would strengthen your application includes knowledge of respiratory infections and current developments in vaccinology, familiarity with research methods and statistical procedures, and practical experience of clinical studies or trials. Experience in supervision or training of colleagues, presenting to specialist and non-specialist audiences, and evidence of teaching experience would also be beneficial.
Employment Details
This is a fixed-term position with a duration of 12 months, offered on a full-time working pattern. The salary range is £52,655 to £65,048 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. You will hold an honorary contract with the appropriate NHS Trusts and be expected to take on clinical responsibilities appropriate to your level of experience, with training in study-specific areas provided.
