Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Sous-Chef to support our Head Chef in all kitchen operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Thai cuisine, international culinary techniques, and possess the skills to manage a team of 3-4 kitchen staff. Key Responsibilities
As Sous-Chef at Thai Ivory Cuisine, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the high standards of our kitchen operations. Your responsibilities will include supervising kitchen staff, preparing and cooking authentic Thai cuisine, ensuring food quality meets our established standards, and maintaining efficient kitchen workflow.
Food Preparation and Cooking
You will be responsible for preparing and cooking complete meals and specialty foods for our regular customers and special events. This includes mastering authentic Thai dishes while incorporating local Nova Scotia ingredients when appropriate. You’ll need to prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances, ensuring all dietary requirements are met safely and accurately.
Staff Management and Training
Your duties will include supervising cooks and other kitchen staff, instructing them in food preparation, cooking techniques, garnishing, and presentation standards. You’ll demonstrate new cooking techniques and equipment to the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill development.
Inventory and Cost Management
Efficient cost control is essential in our operations. You will estimate amounts and costs of supplies and food items, estimate labor costs, and maintain detailed records of food costs, consumption, sales, and inventory. You’ll also requisition food and kitchen supplies, and arrange for equipment purchases and repairs as needed.
Menu Planning and Quality Assurance
You will assist in planning and directing food preparation and cooking activities, contributing to menu development and ensuring all food meets our quality standards. Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive hourly wage of $30.00 CAD for this full-time position. The typical work schedule is 32 to 40 hours per week, with shifts typically running from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, including both day and evening hours as needed.
