Key Responsibilities
Your daily duties will include handling animals with care and professionalism, monitoring the calving process to ensure safe deliveries, and continuously monitoring animal health to detect any issues early. You will be responsible for performing livestock feeding according to nutritional requirements and preparing clean, dry areas for cows that are calving to ensure a comfortable environment.
Milking Operations
A significant part of your role will involve supervising milking operations to ensure they are performed correctly and efficiently. You will need to follow strict hygiene protocols and maintain equipment to ensure the highest quality of milk production. Your attention to detail during milking directly impacts the quality of our dairy products.
Animal Health Care
You will be trained to treat common livestock health issues under supervision and recognize when to call for veterinary assistance. This aspect of the role requires good observation skills and a compassionate approach to animal care. You will work closely with our veterinary partners to maintain the health and productivity of our herd.
Feeding and Animal Care
Proper nutrition is essential for dairy cattle health and productivity. Your responsibilities will include feeding and tending to animals according to their specific nutritional needs and growth stages. You will monitor feed consumption and ensure that all animals have access to fresh water at all times.
Farm Equipment Operation
You will be responsible for operating and maintaining various types of farm machinery and equipment, including tractors, farm trucks, and skidsteers. Proper training will be provided for all equipment, and you must follow safety protocols at all times. Regular maintenance checks will be part of your routine to ensure all equipment is in good working condition.
Environmental Control Systems
Modern dairy farms utilize automated environmental control systems to maintain optimal conditions for the animals. You will learn to operate and monitor these systems, including ventilation, temperature control, and lighting systems, to ensure the animals are kept in a comfortable and healthy environment.
Manure Management
Proper handling and storage of manure is crucial for both environmental compliance and farm bio-security. You will be responsible for managing manure according to best practices, ensuring proper storage and disposal or utilization as fertilizer. You must follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment, safe handling of animals, and maintaining clean working conditions. Bio-security measures help prevent the spread of diseases and protect the health of our entire herd.
Record Keeping
Accurate record-keeping is essential for quality control, production tracking, and regulatory compliance. You will maintain quality control and production records, as well as work records and logs. These records help us monitor farm performance, identify areas for improvement, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
General Farm Duties
In addition to specialized tasks, you will be expected to perform general farm duties as needed. This may include facility maintenance, grounds keeping, assisting with seasonal tasks such as planting or harvesting, and helping with any other aspects of farm operations as required.
