The Senior POS Engineer is a full-time role responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining point-of-sale (POS) solutions within 3Line’s payment infrastructure. This hybrid position is based in Lagos State, Nigeria, with flexibility for some work-from-home arrangements. Day-to-day activities include integrating POS terminals with payment gateways, troubleshooting technical issues, optimizing performance, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and security protocols. The role involves collaborating with product, operations, and support teams to deliver stable, scalable POS services, as well as mentoring junior engineers and contributing to architectural decisions. The Senior POS Engineer will also participate in testing, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance transaction reliability and user experience.
Qualifications
Strong experience in POS terminal development, integration, and maintenance, including firmware updates and device configuration.
Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for payment and POS systems (such as C/C++, Java, or similar), and familiarity with embedded systems concepts.
Knowledge of payment processing protocols and standards (e.g., ISO 8583, EMV, PCI-DSS) and secure transaction handling.
Experience working with payment gateways, card schemes, and switching platforms within a financial technology environment.
Ability to analyze logs, diagnose complex technical issues, and implement effective fixes and performance optimizations.
Strong understanding of networking fundamentals relevant to POS connectivity, including TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, and VPNs.
Excellent documentation, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Proven experience mentoring or leading engineering team members and contributing to technical design and roadmap discussions.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Minimum of 5 years work experience in the payments or fintech industry, especially within the Nigerian or African market.
