Project Engineer at Egbin Power Plc
EGBIN POWER PLC, Lagos is one of the biggest additions to the electricity industry in Nigeria. Often seen as the biggest single generating power station in Black Africa, it was built to meet the every rising demand for electricity in Lagos and its environs.
Before the construction of the Egbin Power Plc, Lagos, the Ijora Power Station which is reputed as the oldest power generating plant in the country was the main source of electricity supply around.The Project Engineer is responsible for providing engineering and technical leadership throughout the planning and execution of multidisciplinary projects. The role coordinates project activities, establishes milestones, manages project schedules, and ensures the effective integration of all engineering elements required for successful project delivery.
The role also oversees stakeholder engagement across all levels and supports effective project governance through budget management, resource and personnel planning, scheduling, progress monitoring, forecasting, reporting, and documentation management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Develop project plans and schedules; coordinate and monitor assigned projects.
Interact with clients and integrate their needs and requirements into field engineering and project activities.
Organize, attend, participate in, document, and follow up on actions and decisions from stakeholder meetings.
Establish effective project communication plans and ensure their execution.
Assist designated project quality assurance activities, processes, plans, and personnel performance and reporting.
Monitor compliance with project or project contractual obligations.
Review engineering tasks and initiate corrective actions.
Ensure project compliance with applicable codes, practices, policies, performance standards, and specifications.
Conduct effective planning, critical path analysis, and earned value analysis of capital projects.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams and ensure all aspects of work are properly managed.
Prepare status reports by gathering, analysing, and summarizing relevant information.
Meet project targets and identify and resolve issues.
Ensure stakeholder views are managed towards the best solution.
Lead change request activities to ensure alignment of all parties on project schedule and deliverables.
Obtain customer acceptance of project deliverables.
Manage customer satisfaction within the project execution period.
Ensure project closeout reporting and identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
Ensure awareness, understanding, and application of HSE policy and application of departmental objectives.
Ensure awareness of the Integrated Management System (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018) and its application.
Understand and identify hazards, risks, environmental aspects, and impacts as they relate to assigned responsibilities and practices.
Ensure compliance with NDPR and other data protection laws and practices.
Undertake Data Protection Impact Assessments where applicable to mitigate data protection risks during data processing operations.
Education and Work Experience
Engineering background, preferably a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering or its equivalent.
Minimum of 3 years' project management experience.
Project Management certification is an added advantage.
HSE training certification is an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
Good project management and supervision skills.
Ability to work on multidisciplinary projects.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of applicable codes, policies, standards, and best practices.
Basic knowledge of other related engineering fields.
