To ensure that all 2 & 3-wheeler vehicles assembled meet defined quality standards and specifications by implementing effective quality control processes across the assembly line, minimizing defects, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
Key Roles / Responsibilities
Quality Leadership & Strategy:
Develop, implement, and continuously improve quality control strategies, policies, and procedures for vehicle assembly operations.
Lead and supervise the Quality Control team to ensure compliance with established quality standards.
Establish quality objectives, monitor performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Promote a quality-first culture across the production floor.
Assembly Line Quality Control:
Oversee in-process inspections at all critical assembly stages including chassis assembly, engine installation, electrical wiring, body assembly, painting, and final finishing.
Ensure strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), engineering drawings, and work instructions.
Verify torque settings, alignments, clearances, and component fitments according to specifications.
Ensure process discipline and standardization throughout the assembly line.
Final Vehicle Inspection (PDI):
Manage Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) activities before vehicle dispatch.
Verify engine performance, braking systems, electrical systems, suspension, steering, fit & finish, lighting, and overall build quality.
Approve vehicles for release or hold units requiring corrective action.
Ensure zero defective vehicles leave the factory.
Defect Management & Root Cause Analysis:
Lead investigations into quality defects and non-conformities.
Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using methodologies such as:
5 Whys
Fishbone Diagram
Pareto Analysis
8D Problem Solving
Drive Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
Monitor recurring issues and ensure permanent corrective actions are implemented.
Process Quality Management:
Monitor manufacturing processes to ensure consistent quality output.
Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Procurement to resolve quality issues.
Drive First Time Right (FTR) manufacturing practices.
Introduce process improvements that reduce variation and improve product quality.
Incoming Material & Supplier Quality:
Oversee inspection of CKD/SKD kits, components, and raw materials.
Ensure defective or non-conforming materials are quarantined and reported.
Work with Procurement and suppliers to resolve quality concerns.
Monitor supplier quality performance and recommend improvement actions.
Quality Systems, Documentation & Reporting:
Establish and maintain inspection records, quality reports, defect logs, and traceability documentation.
Develop quality dashboards and performance reports for management.
Monitor key quality metrics including:
First Pass Yield (FPY)
First Time Right (FTR)
Rework Rate
Defect Per Vehicle (DPV)
Customer Complaints
Warranty Claims
Present quality performance during management review meetings.
Compliance & Quality Audits:
Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and automotive manufacturing requirements.
Lead internal quality audits and support external audits.
Ensure audit findings are addressed through effective corrective action plans.
Maintain documentation required for regulatory compliance and quality certifications.
Continuous Improvement:
Lead Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and Six Sigma improvement initiatives.
Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve productivity, and enhance product quality.
Recommend improvements to production processes, tooling, fixtures, and inspection methods.
Support new product introduction (NPI) and process validation activities.
Training & Team Development:
Train Quality Officers, Inspectors, and Assembly personnel on quality standards and inspection procedures.
Build team capability in problem-solving and quality tools.
Promote a Zero Defect and Right First Time culture.
Conduct periodic quality awareness sessions across the assembly department.
Qualification and Experience
HND / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Industrial Engineering
5 – 10 years experience in automobile assembly or manufacturing (3-wheeler/2-wheeler preferred) with 2-3 years in supervisory role.
Familiarity with CKD/SKD assembly processes is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong understanding of automotive assembly systems (engine, transmission, electricals)
Knowledge of quality tools (RCA, 5 Whys, Fishbone, Pareto)
Attention to detail and inspection accuracy
Problem-solving and analytical thinking
Good communication and reporting skills
Basic knowledge of MS Excel and reporting tools
