Key Responsibilities
Conduct scheduled maintenance such as oil/filter changes and checking coolant and battery levels.
Clean generator components and drain water from fuel tanks.
Perform load bank testing to verify the generator can handle rated capacities.
Troubleshoot mechanical failures (e.g., piston wear, fuel leaks, injector pump problems).
Troubleshoot electrical issues (e.g., stator/rotor faults, faulty sensors, blown fuses).
Replace or re-wire control panels and voltage regulators.
Assist with the delivery, installation, and commissioning of new generator sets.
Connect oil, fuel, and cooling lines according to manufacturer specifications.
Record operational logs (Voltage, Amps, Hz, hours run, fuel consumed, kWh meter readings).
Comply with all relevant OSHA safety standards and environmental regulations for fuel storage.
Requirements
HND or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Minimum of 5 years' hands-on experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel generators in a manufacturing, industrial, facilities management, or power generation environment.
Relevant certifications in diesel engine maintenance, generator maintenance, or electrical systems will be an added advantage.
Experience working with generators such as Perkins, Cummins, Caterpillar (CAT), FG Wilson, MTU, or similar industrial generator brands is preferred.
Technical Competencies:
Engine Mechanics: Strong understanding of internal combustion diesel engines (e.g., fuel injection, cooling, lubrication, and exhaust systems).
Electrical Knowledge: Proficiency in 12–24 VDC electrical systems, AC generator ends, voltage regulators, and control panels.
Diagnostics: Ability to use multimeters and specialized diagnostic tools to identify faults.
Troubleshooting: Analytical capability to read and interpret technical manuals and wiring schematics.
Physical Capability: Ability to lift heavy parts, work in awkward spaces, and endure fluctuating temperatures.
Dexterity: Steady hand and good hand-eye coordination for disassembling and reassembling intricate engine parts.
