University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated Band 7 Senior Project Manager to join Health Innovation West Midlands (HIWM). This is an exciting opportunity to lead high-impact programmes that drive innovation and improvement across health and care systems. The role involves managing projects spanning real-world evaluation, innovation adoption, funding opportunities and stakeholder engagement in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
About the Role
As a Senior Project Manager, you will play a key role in transforming health and care by working with partners across the NHS, industry, academia and beyond. The position offers an excellent opportunity for international professionals with transferable skills from sectors such as industry, consultancy, academia, technology or the voluntary sector. Importantly, prior NHS experience is not required as we actively welcome diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
Main Duties
You will lead and manage a range of projects, ensuring delivery to time, budget and quality standards. This includes developing and implementing project plans, monitoring progress, managing risks and reporting on outcomes. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to facilitate engagement, support the adoption and spread of innovations, and ensure successful delivery across programmes.

The role also involves assessing business development opportunities, contributing to funding bids and income generation, and leading the analysis and interpretation of complex data to evaluate impact. You will support strategic planning and help shape new programmes aligned to organisational priorities. Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include a relevant degree or equivalent additional training plus relevant experience to a post graduate level in a related arena. You must also have a post graduate project management qualification or proven equivalent practical experience. Evidence of continuing professional development is required.
Desirable qualifications include recognised qualifications in patient safety, quality improvement, change management, benefits realisation, or business advice. These additional qualifications can strengthen your application and demonstrate specialized knowledge in healthcare innovation.
Experience
Essential experience includes significant experience of managing projects from set-up through project planning, process mapping, data analysis and implementation of change initiatives in healthcare settings. You should have experience of innovation and improvement interventions being implemented into health and care settings.
You must demonstrate evidence of using a variety of evidence-based quality improvement and service redesign approaches with health and care settings. Experience in organising and managing meetings involving different sectors, agencies and professions is also required. Evidence of patient/user involvement initiatives throughout the delivery of programmes, projects or activities is essential.
Additional Criteria
Essential criteria include effective leadership, delegation, organisational and people management skills, including constructive conflict resolution. You should have excellent organisational, time management and prioritisation skills with an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. The ability to analyse, rationalise and organise complex information is crucial.
Additional essential requirements include the ability to design, implement and report on evaluation of projects and programmes, work on your own initiative within broad occupational policies, and demonstrate excellent communication skills with an ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences.

Working Conditions
This is a full-time position offering flexible working arrangements. The role is offered on a fixed-term contract basis for 12 months. The salary range is £49,387 to £56,515 per year, paid according to the Agenda for Change pay scheme.
The position is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, which is easily accessible by public transport. The role requires travel to meet the needs of the organisation (often at least weekly) and nationally (regularly at least monthly), so a valid UK driving license may be advantageous.
