Job Overview
We are seeking experienced and safety-conscious Truck Drivers to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. As a key member of our transportation fleet, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transport of goods while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and adherence to all regulations. This position offers competitive compensation at $36.00 per hour with opportunities for overtime pay.
Location and Schedule
This position is based in Petrolia, Ontario (N0N 1R0) but requires extensive travel on the road. Drivers can expect to work 40 to 45 hours per week, with overtime available. The schedule includes early morning, morning, day, evening, night, weekend, and shift work. On-call duties and flexible hours may be required as needed. The position starts as soon as possible and we currently have one vacancy available.
Responsibilities
As a Truck Driver with Street Cartage Limited, your primary responsibilities will include planning and adjusting routes based on changing conditions. You will use computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS), and other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions while ensuring timely deliveries.
You will be responsible for loading and unloading goods safely and efficiently. This includes proper securing of cargo to prevent damage during transit and adherence to all safety protocols when handling different types of materials.
Operating and driving straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials is a core function of this role. You will need to demonstrate proficiency in handling various types of vehicles and adapting to different road and weather conditions.
Overseeing the condition of your vehicle is essential. You will inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage equipment, and other vehicle components regularly to ensure they are in proper working condition before, during, and after trips.
Performing pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections is a critical safety requirement. You will document all aspects of vehicle condition and performance, ensuring compliance with transportation regulations and company policies.
You will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance on your vehicle, including basic troubleshooting and arranging for professional repairs when necessary. This proactive approach helps minimize downtime and ensures reliable service.
Transporting and handling dangerous goods requires special training and adherence to strict safety protocols. You will be trained to handle hazardous materials safely and in compliance with all relevant regulations.
Required Experience
Candidates for this Truck Driver position must have experience with various documentation systems and reporting procedures. This includes preparing and submitting accident or incident reports, bills of lading, dangerous goods occurrence reports, and maintaining accurate driver logbooks.
You should be familiar with inspection reports covering pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip procedures. Additionally, experience with maintenance and repair documentation is essential for maintaining proper vehicle records.
Handling trans-border documentation is required for international routes. You must be able to prepare and process all necessary paperwork for cross-border transportation between Canada and the United States.
Trip reports and other administrative documentation must be completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner. This attention to detail ensures smooth operations and proper record-keeping.
Experience operating tractor-trailer combinations is mandatory for this position. You should be comfortable handling various types of trucks and trailers in different driving conditions.
Proficiency with Citizens band (CB) radio and other communication equipment is necessary for maintaining contact with dispatch and other drivers during transit.
Operating GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment is essential for route planning and real-time adjustments during trips. You should be comfortable using technology to optimize delivery routes.
Familiarity with trip recorder (on-board computer) systems is required for monitoring vehicle performance, hours of service, and other operational data.
Experience with various types of hauls is beneficial, including international, local, long-haul, regional, and short-haul routes. This versatility allows you to adapt to different transportation needs as required.
Qualifications
The minimum qualification for this position is an AZ class driver’s license, which is required to operate tractor-trailer combinations in Ontario. Candidates must possess a valid, clean driving record with no major violations.
Knowledge of transportation regulations, including hours of service requirements and safety standards, is essential. You must demonstrate a commitment to safety and compliance with all applicable laws.
Physical fitness is required as the position involves loading and unloading cargo, climbing in and out of the vehicle, and performing inspections in various weather conditions.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for interacting with customers, dispatch, and other team members. You should be able to provide clear updates on delivery status and any issues that may arise.
Time management and organizational skills are crucial for meeting delivery schedules while maintaining proper documentation and adhering to safety protocols.
