The Unit Head – Downstream Team will be responsible for driving business growth, managing strategic client relationships, and leading the bank’s downstream oil and gas portfolio. The role requires strong commercial acumen, sector expertise, leadership capability, and the ability to originate and structure profitable transactions within the downstream energy value chain.
The successful candidate will lead a team focused on delivering revenue growth, portfolio quality, and market penetration across key downstream clients including marketers, distributors, depot owners, logistics operators, and other players within the energy ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development & Revenue Growth
Drive business development initiatives within the downstream oil and gas sector.
Identify, originate, and execute new business opportunities to grow the bank’s energy portfolio.
Develop strategies to deepen market share and improve profitability across assigned accounts.
Achieve portfolio growth targets in line with the bank’s strategic objectives.
Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers within the downstream energy industry.
Manage high-value corporate accounts while ensuring excellent service delivery.
Act as a trusted advisor to clients by providing tailored financial solutions.
Credit & Risk Management
Oversee the structuring and execution of credit facilities and other banking solutions for clients.
Ensure proper risk assessment, portfolio monitoring, and compliance with internal credit policies.
Work closely with Risk Management and Credit teams to maintain portfolio quality and minimize non-performing exposures.
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, coach, and supervise Relationship Managers within the downstream team.
Drive team performance, productivity, and accountability.
Support talent development and succession planning within the unit.
Market Intelligence & Strategy
Monitor trends, developments, and regulatory changes within the oil and gas industry.
Provide strategic insights and recommendations to support business decisions.
Represent the bank at relevant industry events and stakeholder engagements.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
A Master’s Degree and/or professional certifications will be an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 8–12 years’ banking experience, with significant exposure to the oil and gas sector.
Strong experience managing downstream energy clients and transactions.
Proven track record in business development, portfolio management, and revenue generation.
Prior leadership or team management experience is highly desirable.
