Job Summary
Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a full-time Trust Locum Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry to work on Redwood 1 and in City Central LMHT, based at Highbury Hospital. This is a 10-month fixed term position where cover is needed until October 2026, covering a career break.
The successful candidate will join a team of dedicated professionals working in adult mental health services. The Trust delivers training as part of the North School of Psychiatry, East Midlands Healthcare Workforce Deanery, with Dr Debasis Das as the Head of School for Health Education East Midlands and Dr Kehinde Junaid as the Trust’s Director of Medical Education.

Key Responsibilities
In-patient work will be based on Redwood 1 ward, a 16-bed adult male ward at Highbury Hospital, Bulwell, Nottingham. The ward cover will be provided by consultant and multi-professional approved clinician colleagues from the service.
The Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) work will cover the Nottingham City Central LMHT Team, also based at Highbury hospital. Responsibilities include assessment, treatment, and ongoing management of existing patients on the team’s caseload.
Other key responsibilities include Mental Health Act work (Section 12) when required, participation in a day on-call duty rota (average 3-4 times monthly for emergency work only), and providing cover for colleagues when on leave. The position emphasizes providing leadership and consultancy to the team.
There will be junior doctors attached to the wards, including GP trainees, CT trainees, F2 trainees, and one Foundation 1 Doctor (F1). There may also be a Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry (ST) trainee. A robust junior doctor day duty system is in place to cover wards when ward doctors are unavailable.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold MB BS or equivalent medical qualification. Additionally, MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists is required.
Essential Experience and Eligibility
Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. They must be included on the GMC Specialist Register or be able to achieve this within six months.
Approved clinician status or the ability to achieve this within 3 months of appointment is essential. Additionally, applicants must be approved under S12 or able to achieve this within 3 months of appointment.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, qualifications or higher degrees in medical education, clinical research, or management are desirable. Additional clinical qualifications are also considered advantageous.
Desirable GMC Standing
Applicants who are in good standing with the GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice are preferred.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, requiring a submission to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check, with costs deducted from salary following appointment. The DBS application costs £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), deducted over the first 2 months of employment.
Applicants are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service, which has an annual fee of £16 per year.
