Job Summary
This is a Grade E position for a Multiskilled Craftsperson specializing in Carpentry within the Secure Care division, based at the Tamarind Centre. From time to time, you may be required to work outside your primary area of responsibility at alternative locations to meet service needs. Key Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this role is to carry out all duties of a carpenter and other building trades as required. Core responsibilities include manufacturing purpose-made joinery, maintaining and repairing fire escapes and fire doors, performing lock and key cutting services, replacing damaged architectural timberwork, manufacturing and hanging doors, fitting kitchen units, fixing notices and signs, and manufacturing and installing shelving systems.
Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate flexibility in their approach to work, as the role may involve adapting to various building maintenance challenges and working across different trades as needed. The position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of workmanship while ensuring all tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
Person Specification
Training and Qualifications
Essential: Recognized CITB or EITB Apprenticeship with City and Guilds qualifications, or demonstrable equivalent experience and willingness to undertake NVQs.
Desirable: Post-apprenticeship qualifications and formal certificated training in relevant areas.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential: Two years post-qualifying relevant experience or equivalent, good communication skills, and a flexible attitude to work situations.
Desirable: Familiarity with the healthcare sector and day-to-day operation and maintenance of varying types of buildings and premises.
Skills and Personal Qualities
Essential: Knowledge and appreciation of health and safety issues, ability to use initiative, capacity to work independently and as part of a team, respectful and conscientious approach, flexibility, confidence, mature nature, and articulate communication style.
Desirable: Familiarity with other trades/works undertaken within the Estates Directorate, awareness and sensitivity to specific needs regarding mental health environments.
Other Requirements
Essential: Helpful, co-operative, conscientious approach, and commitment to the effective and efficient running of the Directorate and service delivery.
Desirable: Aptitude for self-development, proactive attitude towards new technology and working practices.
