Job Overview
Berkshire Healthcare’s ‘Outstanding’ Learning Disability Service is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join Campion Ward, our 9-bed LD inpatient unit at Prospect Park Hospital. This 11 PA post includes the opportunity for up to 2 PAs to be dedicated to a special interest, whether that’s in research, leadership, QI or service development. While a visible presence on the ward is important, there’s also flexibility for hybrid working.

Location Details
The position is based at Campion Ward, Prospect Park Hospital, located at Honey End Lane, Reading, Berkshire, RG30 4EJ. This location provides excellent transport links and is easily accessible from surrounding areas. Salary and Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum, pro rata for part-time positions. Working Pattern
This is a permanent, full-time position with flexible working options. The role includes 11 programmed activities (PAs) per week, with the possibility of dedicating up to 2 PAs to a special interest area. The post offers hybrid working arrangements, allowing for a combination of on-site ward presence and remote work where appropriate.
Contract Type
This is a permanent contract with the NHS, offering job security and excellent benefits. Essential Experience
Applicants must have worked in a senior non-consultant level post in acute adult psychiatry, within an inpatient and/or community setting. You should also demonstrate the ability to undertake the full range of consultant responsibilities. The position requires someone who can provide medical leadership to the inpatient service and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Main Duties
As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will hold consultant responsibility for diagnosis, management and treatment of allocated inpatients, provide medical leadership to the inpatient service, supervise and support other medical staff, act as Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health Act, arrange cross cover with other Consultants, and contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and CPD activities.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have experience in acute adult psychiatry and the ability to undertake full consultant responsibilities. Desirable qualifications include evidence-based practice applications and an interest in clinical and policy developments for this care group, as well as experience in developing services within inpatient settings.
