The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving vehicle components, systems, and structures in line with engineering standards and company requirements. The role supports product development, prototyping, testing, and continuous improvement of automobile designs to enhance performance, safety, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
Design mechanical components and systems for vehicles including chassis, body structures, suspension systems, and assemblies.
Develop detailed engineering drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA).
Conduct design calculations, simulations, and feasibility studies.
Support prototype development and testing of new designs.
Product Improvement & Innovation
Analyze existing vehicle designs and recommend improvements for performance, cost, and durability.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions.
Support design modifications based on production feedback and field performance.
Production Support
Work closely with production and fabrication teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
Provide technical support during assembly and fabrication processes.
Resolve design-related issues during production.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure designs meet quality standards, safety regulations, and industry specifications.
Participate in design reviews and validation processes.
Maintain accurate documentation of design specifications and revisions.
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare engineering reports, design documentation, and technical specifications.
Maintain records of drawings, revisions, and project files.
Requirements & Qualifications
B.Sc./HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Minimum of 3–6 years’ experience in mechanical design, preferably in automobile or manufacturing industry.
Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Experience with design analysis tools (FEA) is an added advantage.
Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
