Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Gastroenterologist to join the Gastroenterology team within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTM UHB). This vacancy is based at the Princes of Wales Hospital (POWH) in Bridgend but requires working across CTM. The successful candidate will be part of the Senior Clinician team managing the Gastroenterology ward at POWH and joining the Gastrointestinal bleed rota for CTM.

Location
The position is based at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, Wales. The hospital is located at Coity Road, Bridgend, CF31 1RQ. While the primary base is at POWH, the successful candidate will be required to work across the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board sites, including Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from £110,240 to £160,951 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. This is based on the Hospital Medical and Dental Staff pay scale (Agenda for Change). The salary includes London weighting if applicable and is paid monthly.
Contract Type
This is a permanent contract, offering job security and stability. Permanent contracts with the NHS typically include comprehensive benefits such as membership of the NHS Pension Scheme, access to the NHS discount scheme, and generous annual leave entitlement.
Working Pattern
The position is full-time, working 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a 1 in 11 GI Bleed on-call rota across RGH and PCH sites. The post includes working weekends, bank holidays, and nights as part of the on-call commitment.
Language Requirements
Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. Knowledge of Welsh would be an advantage but is not essential. The health board provides Welsh language training for staff who wish to develop their skills. All patient-facing documentation is available in both Welsh and English.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold MRCP or equivalent qualification. They must be on the specialist register or be within 6 months of CCT/CESR. A medical degree registrable with the General Medical Council (GMC) is required. Evidence of continuous professional development and up-to-date knowledge in gastroenterology is essential.
Essential Experience
Extensive experience and training in general gastroenterology and general internal medicine is required. Applicants must have experience of working within a similar role, demonstrating the ability to provide high-quality clinical care and leadership. Previous experience in managing a gastroenterology service would be advantageous.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, additional qualifications in a subspecialty of gastroenterology would be welcomed. This could include but is not limited to: hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease, therapeutic endoscopy, or transplant hepatology. Membership of relevant professional bodies such as the American Gastroenterological Association or European Society of Gastroenterology would be advantageous.

Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work with the rest of the consultant body to provide strong professional leadership within the department and deliver a high-quality service following clear departmental policies and guidelines. They will provide professional and managerial supervision of junior medical staff and follow UpToDate evidence-based practice for patients under their care.
The appointee will undertake ward rounds to identify and assess problems, plan management of care, and be actively available during the working week. They will ensure that an appropriate model of care is adopted which recognises the involvement of the multi-disciplinary team, the holistic needs of the patient, and their family.
Person Specification
