About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic cardiologist with an interest in Acute Heart Failure to join our team across the Trust, including our Community Diagnostic Centre in Workington. This post will support our existing team of interventional and non-interventional cardiologists who deliver both elective and urgent services, including 24/7 Primary PCI.
The role requires a commitment to a 1:6 weekend general cardiology on call, which includes coronary care ward rounds, cardiology ward reviews, and hospital referrals. While there is no commitment to Acute General Medicine, participation in a 1:9 Consultant Cardiologist of the week rota is required.
This position offers the opportunity to join a dynamic team of cardiologists delivering secondary Cardiology services to the North Cumbrian population. Our developing department provides cardiology services to approximately 320,000 people across both urban and rural areas.
Key Responsibilities
Main duties include but are not limited to:
- Providing Heart Failure clinics
- Participating in COW (Cardiology On-Call) as per rota
- Performing job planned clinics
- Teaching and educating Central Doctors on wards
- Contributing to MDT (Multi-Disciplinary Team) meetings
- Triage referrals
- Contribute to 1:6 routine weekend work
- Traveling to Whitehaven Hospital and Workington CDC to cover service
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Valid Full Registration with the General Medical Council
- Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register CCT/CESR
- Membership of the Royal College Physicians or equivalent
- MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification
Desirable Qualifications
- Higher medical degree
- BSE or equivalent training in trans thoracic echo
Essential Experience
- High level of clinical experience and competence in Clinical Cardiology
Desirable Experience
- Experience in district general hospital practice
- Experience in the management of patients with Inherited Cardiac Conditions
- Experience of/Accreditation in cardiac CT or MRI
