About the Role
A new post has been created within the Medicine for Older People team at Wexham Park following a service reconfiguration. The successful candidate will work across the rehabilitation unit, discharge unit, and the acute frailty service, providing high-quality care to our patients. Key Responsibilities
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to work alongside our existing consultants to further develop services for older people and bring their own special interests to enhance our current offerings. This role is ideal for those seeking to join an organisation that is leading the way in delivering truly integrated care.
Clinical Duties
- Deliver high-quality clinical care in Acute/General and Older Peoples Medicine
- Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams
- Liaise with Social Services, GPs, and voluntary organisations
- Provide specialist advice to colleagues and support staff
- Contribute to teaching, training, and supervision of junior doctors and other healthcare professionals
- Participate in audits, quality improvement, and service development
- Engage in clinical governance and morbidity & mortality meetings
- Support divisional leadership with service planning and development
- Comply with Trust policies and complete mandatory training, appraisal, and revalidation
On-Call Requirements
For dual-accredited candidates, the General Medicine on-call rota is approximately 1:9 weekends, with a less frequent midweek commitment. Weekdays (08:00-17:00): Acute admissions are covered by Acute Medicine consultants. Out of hours (nights and weekends): The on-call consultant physician covers both acute admissions and the wider General Medicine service. On-call duties attract a 1 PA supplement and one day TOIL for weekend work.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications
- MRCP (Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians)
- 10 years experience in relevant medical specialties
- Full GMC registration and a license to practice
- Awareness of legal responsibilities eg safeguarding, mental capacity act, deprivation of liberty, data protection, equality and diversity
- If applying for consultant post, CCT or CESR in geriatric medicine or within 6 months of expected CCT date
Desirable Qualifications
- Higher degree eg MSc, postgraduate diploma
Essential Experience
- Able to undertake comprehensive geriatric assessment
- Able to independently manage an outpatient clinic
- Ability to lead MDT meeting and experience of effective discharge planning
- Previous experience in delivering interprofessional and post graduate teaching
- Understand principles and participated in audit activity and quality improvement
- Understand the principles of Clinical Governance and demonstrate experience of evidence based practice
- Able to deal with complexity and uncertainty in the care of patients
Desirable Experience

>To have completed a teaching or educational supervisors course
- Previous participation in MRCP &/or student teaching
- Subspecialty experience eg movement disorders, rehabilitation, acute frailty

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
