Job Overview
We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic clinician to join our team of 6 consultants providing Specialist Diabetes and Endocrinology care across West Suffolk. The successful candidate will be based at the West Suffolk Foundation Trust site and will be responsible for delivering inpatient care on the 33 bed Diabetes/Endocrinology and General Medicine ward G3, along with outpatient clinics based on site and at integrated care hub locations.

Essential Qualifications
Candidates must hold MRCP or equivalent and have full GMC registration. Entry on the GMC specialist register in Diabetes/Endocrinology and General (Internal) Medicine is required, or candidates must be within six months of attaining Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training at the time of interview.
Essential Experience
Candidates must have clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in General Medicine. Experience in management of acute medical inpatients and medical outpatients is essential, as is the ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of medical patients. Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Diabetes/Endocrinology is also required.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience in specialised diabetes clinics including insulin pump and pregnancy is desirable. Additionally, an MD or PhD qualification is considered advantageous for this position.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have depth and breadth of experience in acute ward based and out-patient medicine and Diabetes/Endocrinology. They will be responsible for managing Diabetes/Endocrine inpatients and outpatients, and able to offer expert clinical opinion on a full spectrum of Diabetes/Endocrine patients.
Teaching Requirements
Experience of supervising FY1s, FY2s StRs and SpRs (or equivalent) is essential. The ability to teach clinical skills and demonstrate experience of delivering teaching is also required. Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates and ability to supervise postgraduate research are desirable.
Management Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to advise on efficient and smooth running of the Diabetes/Endocrinology service, organise and manage day to day service delivery, and manage and lead strategic developments in service delivery. Experience of audit management and ability to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets are essential.
Personal Qualities
Candidates must possess good personal interactive communications skills with clarity of expression and purpose. The ability to work as a team member and acceptance of management and administrative duties by working within a structured hospital team for the greater good are essential. An enquiring, critical approach to work and a caring attitude to patients are also required.
