Job Overview
We are seeking experienced and reliable truck drivers to operate our diverse fleet of vehicles. This permanent, full-time position offers competitive compensation ranging from $36.00 to $38.00 per hour (negotiable) with flexible scheduling options including early morning, morning, day, evening, night, and weekend shifts. Successful candidates will be part of a professional team dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and customer service.
Location and Work Environment
The position is based at our facility located at 102 Armstrong Ave, Georgetown, ON L7G 4S2. Work is conducted on-site with various routes extending across local, regional, national, and international destinations. Georgetown offers a welcoming community with excellent access to major transportation routes, making it an ideal location for trucking operations.
Work Schedule and Hours
This is a permanent, full-time position requiring 40 to 60 hours per week. The schedule offers flexibility with shifts available early morning through night, including weekends. The position requires candidates who are adaptable to changing schedules and can work during various times to meet transportation demands. The position starts as soon as possible, allowing for immediate onboarding of qualified candidates.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess a valid AZ class license with Air Brakes Endorsement, equivalent to a Class 1 or A Driver’s License. In addition to licensing requirements, candidates should have proven experience in handling various types of commercial trucks including dry bulk, flatbed, refrigerated, and tractor-trailer configurations.
Essential Skills and Experience
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in operating GPS and other navigation equipment for both familiar and unfamiliar routes. Experience with international, national, provincial/territorial, and regional transportation is highly valued. The ability to maintain accurate documentation including trip reports, driver logbooks, and inspection reports is critical for this position.
Documentation Expertise
Successful candidates will have experience creating and maintaining various transportation documents including accident or incident reports, bills of lading, inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), maintenance and repair reports, and trans-border documentation. Attention to detail and organizational skills are essential for managing these documents effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Truck drivers at Oyster Freight Services Inc. are responsible for operating straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials safely and efficiently. This includes loading and unloading cargo, ensuring proper securing and tarping of materials, and maintaining constant awareness of cargo safety and security throughout transportation.
Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection
A primary responsibility is conducting thorough inspections of the vehicle before, during, and after trips. Drivers must inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage equipment, and all other vehicle components. They are also responsible for performing brake adjustments and conducting preventive maintenance to ensure the vehicle remains in optimal condition.
Customer Service Excellence
Our drivers represent Oyster Freight Services Inc. in all client interactions. Professionalism in customer service is essential, including clear communication, problem-solving abilities, and maintaining positive relationships with clients at pickup and delivery locations. Drivers often serve as the primary point of contact for our customers.
Team Collaboration
Many of our transportation operations require drivers to work as part of a two-person team or convoy. This involves coordinating with other drivers, maintaining communication during transit, and supporting team members to ensure efficient and safe completion of transportation assignments.
Operational Duties
Drivers are responsible for recording accurate information including cargo details, hours of service, distance traveled, and fuel consumption. This documentation is essential for both operational efficiency and regulatory compliance. Drivers must also receive and relay information to central dispatch to maintain clear communication throughout transportation operations.
Regulatory Compliance
Understanding and adhering to transportation regulations is crucial. This includes hours of service requirements, vehicle maintenance standards, and cross-border documentation requirements when operating internationally. Drivers must stay current with changing regulations and ensure all operations comply with applicable laws.
Emergency Preparedness
Drivers must be prepared to handle emergency situations that may arise during transportation. This includes mechanical breakdowns, adverse weather conditions, accidents, or other unexpected events. The ability to remain calm, make sound decisions, and follow emergency procedures is essential.
Additional Requirements
Physical ability to perform tasks such as loading/unloading cargo, securing loads, and conducting vehicle inspections is necessary. Good communication skills in English are required for interacting with clients, dispatch, and regulatory authorities. Clean driving record and ability to pass a pre-employment drug test are mandatory requirements.
Technology Proficiency
Familiarity with electronic logging devices, fleet management systems, and transportation management software is increasingly important in modern trucking operations. Candidates with experience using these technologies will have a competitive advantage.
