Job Summary
United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (ULTH) is seeking two substantive Consultants in Accident and Emergency Medicine to join our team at Pilgrim Hospital Boston and Lincoln County Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a beautiful part of the country with a talented team, especially as we have recently been awarded Teaching Hospital Status.
About the Role
We are looking for experienced emergency medicine consultants who can provide the highest quality of care to each individual patient who attends our Emergency Department. The appointee will work in a 1:15 on call rota with a 1:5 weekend frequency. The job plan will be aligned to an 85% DCC and 15% SPA split. Please note that this job description is still being reviewed by the Royal College and does not yet have approval.
Main Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to provide comprehensive clinical, supervisory, educational and training support to the Emergency Department in conjunction with colleagues. This is a substantive full-time Consultant post where the primary purpose is to ensure the highest quality of care is provided to each individual patient. The on call supplement is currently category A and is classed as high frequency with an on call availability supplement of 8% currently payable.
Additional Responsibilities
In addition to core clinical duties, the successful candidate will be required to collaborate with colleagues to maintain emergency medicine in line with strategic requirements, provide direct clinical supervision and training of junior medical and nursing staff, participate in the development of treatment protocols, take responsibility for the professional supervision and appraisal of junior staff, and contribute to the training and assessment of Specialist Registrars/ST Grade doctors rotating through the department.

Person Specification: Qualifications
Essential qualifications include Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM), CCT in Emergency Medicine or equivalent (expected within 6 months of interview), full GMC Registration with licence to practice, and ATLS/ETC & ALS certification. APLS or PALS certification is also essential. Desirable qualifications include Leadership or Teaching qualification, dual accreditation in PHEM/PEM, and instructor status in advanced life support courses.
Person Specification: Clinical Experience
Essential clinical experience requirements include a broad range of relevant experience in Emergency Medicine including emergency problems, evidence of experience taking full and independent responsibility for clinical work without direct supervision, previous experience providing ED shop floor leadership and supervision, knowledge and ability to teach all grades of medical and clinical staff, and at least 6 months previous experience working at Consultant Level.
Person Specification: Clinical Governance
Essential requirements for clinical governance include evidence of understanding clinical governance and ability to demonstrate ongoing CPD, previous experience of dealing with complaints management, and evidence of experience dealing with morbidity and mortality meetings. These skills are crucial for maintaining high standards of patient care and departmental management.

Working Pattern and Salary
This is a permanent, full-time position with a salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum. The on call supplement is currently category A and is classed as high frequency with an on call availability supplement of 8% currently payable.
