About the Role
Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an inspirational and enthusiastic Senior Immunisation Nurse to join their team on a part-time basis of 30 hours per week. This is an exciting leadership opportunity for experienced healthcare professionals who are passionate about children’s vaccination programmes and wish to develop their management and leadership skills within the NHS.
Job Summary
The Senior Immunisation Nurse position is a Band 6 role offering a salary of £38,682 to £46,580 per annum (pro rata). This permanent position requires a motivated professional with excellent communication skills who can provide clinical expertise and leadership to team members. The role demands appropriate knowledge and skills in school-aged immunisation to support the team, provide training, and assist in the planning and delivery of vaccine programmes and BCG services.
Key Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this post is to support the Head of School Aged Immunisations in managing the delivery of the Commissioned BCG Programme and School Aged Immunisation Programmes seamlessly to children and young people aged 0-19, and their families. You will assist with day-to-day management of staff, including clinical professionals and support staff, while engaging in partnership working and liaising with other organisations.
Main Duties
Your responsibilities will include personnel and information management, alongside day-to-day coordination of the service to ensure continuity and the most effective use of resources to meet the needs of the countywide service. You will work in collaboration with the Head of School Aged Immunisations to ensure alignment of professional priorities with organisational priorities and core business.
Leadership Requirements
You will deliver operational management for the Immunisation Team, assuming continuous responsibility for appropriate allocation of workload and effectively managing the team through supervision processes. This includes providing strong professional leadership, ensuring effective performance management of the team, and acting as an exemplary role model providing the highest standards of evidence-based clinical practice.
Immunisation Programme Delivery
The role requires you to lead and model clinical practice while supporting and encouraging colleagues to reach their potential. You will provide support for the delivery of other school-based immunisation programmes and actively contribute to the development and coordination of health promotion programmes to school-aged children to improve uptake of the school-based immunisation programme.
BCCG Programme Support
You will assist in the planning, coordination and delivery of community BCG clinics and liaise collaboratively with the Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust respiratory team in relation to complex BCG queries. Maintaining contemporaneous, factual records with the child as the focus of all assessments and actions is essential in accordance with Public Health Nursing Service guidelines and organisational clinical record keeping policy.
Safeguarding and Risk Management
You must be proactive in the identification of risk factors and signs and symptoms of child abuse, acting according to organisation and Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children’s Board protocols at all times. The role involves liaising collaboratively with Gloucestershire’s schools, the Child in Care Team and Social Care to ensure children who are vulnerable and/or with complex health needs receive their vaccinations.
Training and Development
A key aspect of this role involves developing training packages and delivering them to school-aged children and the PHN Teams, such as HPV training programmes or cascade training. You will provide signposting to other services and agencies, referring onwards in a timely manner and liaising appropriately while seeking first any necessary consent.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must have professional clinical knowledge required through training to degree or equivalent, and active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) on Part 1 or 2 of the Register. Additionally, you must hold ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing/FLAP qualification if you don’t have a degree, and demonstrate evidence of Continued Professional Development.
Essential Experience
You must have post-registration experience of working with children or young people, families or in community settings. Evidence of safeguarding children experience is essential, though you must demonstrate willingness to undertake appropriate training for the role if this experience is not already established.
Professional Knowledge
The ideal candidate will have active NMC registration on Part 1 or 2 of the Register, comprehensive knowledge of NMC Professional Codes, Standards and PREP, and understanding of Government policy in current child health programmes and their impact on local needs. You should also demonstrate understanding of critical analysis of the research process and evidence-based practice.
Clinical Expertise
You must be able to demonstrate a high standard of clinical expertise. The role requires you to ensure that high standards of infection control are integral to all aspects of nursing practice. You will take and act upon referrals from other agencies and services as appropriate and allocate work appropriately to the Immunisation Team.

Working Pattern and Flexibility
This is a part-time position for 30 hours per week, and we seek applicants who can work flexibly to meet the needs of the Service. The post holder will work closely with the Head of Service to analyse and review service delivery and ensure it remains effective and responsive while adhering to all statutory guidance.
