About the Position
We are pleased to offer the opportunity for a Consultant Orthodontist to join our friendly and supportive team of Orthodontists in Rotherham. This is a substantive replacement post within our well-established Oral and Maxillofacial department. The department currently consists of 2 Consultants and provides comprehensive orthodontic services to the local community.
Job Responsibilities
The appointee will be encouraged to develop a special interest within the specialty of Orthodontics, which will complement the existing Consultants in the Department. You will be required to ensure that you keep your knowledge base and skills up to date, meeting the Continuing Education and Professional Development requirements of the General Dental Council and Royal College of Surgeons.
The Department
The Orthodontic Department at Rotherham General Hospital is situated within the main outpatient area and is shared with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. It provides a full range of Orthodontic services to patients from the Rotherham area, including the treatment of orthognathic patients and patients with hypodontia and impacted teeth. Multidisciplinary clinics are held within the department with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a visiting Consultant Restorative Dentist from the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital in Sheffield.
Facilities and Equipment
There are currently two modern well-equipped surgeries allocated to Orthodontics, with a third surgery shared with OMFS. The department has its own radiographic and Cone Beam CT facilities, all surgeries have computer terminals for viewing digital radiographs on the PAX system, and an intra-oral scanner is available. The department also uses Dolphin imaging software for dento-facial imaging.

Interview Process
All Consultant interviews will be performed in person (face to face). If there are any exceptional circumstances as to why a candidate cannot attend in person then a possible virtual interview will be considered by the Executive panel but is not guaranteed.
Qualifications Required
Essential qualifications include Full registration and a licence to practise with the GDC, confirmation of GDC registration number, being on the GDC Specialist register in Orthodontics, Membership in Orthodontics or equivalent, Intercollegiate Fellowship Exit Examination in Orthodontics or equivalent, and possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in Orthodontics.
Desirable Qualifications
Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent, is desirable for this position.
Research and Audit Requirements
Essential requirements include evidence of audit and the implementation of change following the audit, and the ability to appraise scientific literature critically. Relevant research published in peer review journal is considered desirable.
Education and Training Experience
Essential experience includes experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduates and postgraduates. Desirable aspects include training in teaching and the ability to supervise junior staff.
Management Skills Required
Essential management skills include demonstrating effective team working skills, time management and organisational ability, proven knowledge of systems and process of NHS or equivalent, sense of understanding and commitment to corporate responsibility, and commitment to and understanding of responsibility to the organisation.
Clinical Skills
Essential clinical skills include good communication skills and team-working skills.
Experience Requirements
Essential experience includes successful completion of an SAC-approved minimum 2 year training in a Fixed Term Training Appointment (FTTA) in orthodontics or within 6 months of completion, or equivalent, which follows on from the pre-CCST training period of 3 years. Desirable experience includes successful completion of an SAC-approved 3 year minimum training programme in orthodontics.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
