About the Role
We are seeking a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine to join our pioneering Care of the Elderly team at West Suffolk Hospital. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead transformative change in frailty care both regionally and nationally. The role involves providing high-quality, holistic medical care to frail older people in both hospital and community settings.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing care on our 32-bed geriatrics ward, conducting specialist assessments in ED, AAU, and SDEC (Monday-Friday, 9 AM-7 PM), collaborating with the Virtual Ward and community teams, and participating in weekend rounds on a 1 in 7 rotation (Saturday-Sunday, 8:30 AM-12:30 PM).
What We Offer
We offer a competitive salary ranging from £109,725 to £145,478 per annum (pro rata), along with the opportunity to work in an innovative environment where frailty care is a top priority. Under new leadership, we are pioneering eFrailty Alerts, electronic clinical frailty scores, and patient-led pathways.
Why Join Us?
By joining our team, you’ll be part of a healthcare organization that empowers patients, families, and healthcare professionals through education and innovation. We’re shifting away from traditional hospital-based care toward approaches that foster patient ownership of health, reduce ED waiting times, and deliver high-quality, person-centered frailty care.
Location Benefits
You’ll be working in Bury St Edmunds, a charming town in the heart of Suffolk with excellent transport links to Cambridge and London. This picturesque location offers a wonderful quality of life while providing easy access to major cities.
