The successful candidates will be responsible for providing clinical leadership within our Medium Secure Service, working specifically with male patients who have mental health needs. This is a unique opportunity to join a new ward as part of an established and successful medium secure male service.
About St Andrew’s Healthcare
St Andrew’s is a not-for-profit Charity with no shareholders – any surplus generated is reinvested directly into our services. We are part of the Specialist Provider Collaboratives in the East and West Midlands and a member of the East Midlands Alliance.
Our Northampton campus, set across 150 plus acres of woodland greenery, encompasses five distinct Divisions: Medium Secure, Low Secure and Specialist Rehabilitation, Learning Disability and Autism, Neuropsychiatry, and CAMHS.
We operate several unique specialist national services including our Deaf Forensic Service, Huntington’s Service, Secure Brain Injury Service, Older Adults Secure Services, Blended Women’s Service (one of 3 National Pilots), and a specialist inpatient DBT service.
The Role
Working within our Medium Secure Service, you will serve as the Responsible Clinician in our specialist medium service. This position involves leading a male medium secure ward that provides care and treatment for working age males with mental illnesses.
As a new ward forming part of an established and successful medium secure male service, you will work closely with other male wards and clinical teams to ensure optimal pathways between services that meet patients’ needs as they progress through treatment and recovery.
You will lead a multi-disciplinary team and oversee the management of patients with often complex needs, promoting innovation and improvement of services. There is scope to develop your specialist interests and grow your remit and responsibilities.
Main Responsibilities
You will be encouraged to become a leader nationally in mental health and influence the future direction of services. The post offers significant autonomy to make decisions that improve patient care and outcomes.
This personally and professionally rewarding role allows you to undertake non-clinical activities of interest including research, teaching, governance, and management in an innovative way, influencing service direction to achieve the best outcomes for patients.
You will have your own office and receive support from an associate specialist as ward doctor, plus a full MDT including Clinical Administrators and Personal Assistants dedicated to your wards and service.
Why Join St Andrew’s
We offer numerous career progression opportunities, with many of our senior medical managers having started as Consultants within the Charity. You’ll receive support from Speciality Doctor and Physical Healthcare teams.
Our consultants benefit from infrequent non-resident second on-call duties with 24-hour first on-call cover, an individual study budget of £1,000 per Consultant, and opportunities for sponsored MBA degrees.
Join our community of Consultants on one site with a weekly multidisciplinary CPD and Grand Rounds programme that includes colleagues from the NHS. Only 10% of our Consultant Psychiatrist roles are occupied by locums, indicating our posts fill quickly due to their appeal.
We offer support for indemnified private practice and medicolegal work through our community partnerships, opportunities for joint roles with the NHS in some areas, and teaching opportunities for medical students from Cambridge and Buckingham as well as Trainees.
Additional Benefits
Research opportunities are available through our Research and Innovation Team, supported by class-leading analytics and data monitoring with extensive integration to our Electronic Records system.
All wards feature Electronic Prescribing capabilities. Other benefits include travel allowance, pension, 33 days of Annual Leave plus Bank Holidays, free parking, sickness policy on par with the NHS, and comprehensive secretarial support.
International Medical Graduates
We welcome applications from job seekers who require current Skilled Worker sponsorship to work in the UK. These applications are considered alongside all other submissions.
For international candidates, additional requirements include presenting criminal record certificates from each country where you have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) are also subject to this requirement.
