Consultant in Radiology – Cardiothoracic Radiology with certificate of sponsorship to the UK
Visa and Sponsorship Information
This position offers a Certificate of Sponsorship for eligible international candidates. If you’re a qualified radiologist seeking to relocate to the UK, this could be an excellent opportunity to join the National Health Service (NHS) in beautiful Bath. The Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust welcomes applications from skilled professionals who require sponsorship to work in the UK.
About the Position
We are seeking a permanent Consultant Radiologist with a specialist interest in Cardiothoracic imaging to join our friendly, forward-thinking team of 31 Consultant Radiologists at the Royal United Hospital Bath. This is a full-time position (10 PAs), though we welcome applications from those wishing to work part-time. The post includes participation in evening, weekend, and on-call rotas, providing a comprehensive clinical experience.
Key Responsibilities
As a Consultant in Radiology with a focus on Cardiothoracic imaging, you will play a crucial role in our patient care pathway. Your responsibilities will include working alongside five other consultants with Thoracic subspecialty interest to help deliver the fast-track cancer diagnosis service. This involves reporting chest radiographs and 2-week wait CTs, performing lung biopsies, and preparing and presenting at the weekly lung cancer multidisciplinary meeting.
Lung Cancer Specialist
You will be instrumental in our lung cancer service, working with the multidisciplinary team to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment planning. Your expertise will be vital in interpreting complex imaging studies and guiding clinical decision-making for patients with suspected or confirmed lung cancer.
Pulmonary Hypertrition Specialist
The RUH hosts a tertiary satellite specialist PH service affiliated with The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, receiving approximately 250 referrals per annum from across the South West and Wales. You will be involved in reporting CT and MRI for patients with suspected pulmonary hypertension and participating in the weekly PH MDT.
Cardiac CT Expertise
If you have experience in cardiac CT imaging, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute significantly to our cardiac radiology service. We have dedicated Siemens Drive ultra-fast pitch dual-source scanners for cardiac CT, and the RUH is a European reference site for Siemens CT technology. You’ll be working with advanced equipment and techniques, including FFRct post-processing analysis as part of the NHSE MedTech mandate.
Essential Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, you must hold a GMC-recognised general medical qualification and have full GMC registration with a licence to practice. Additionally, you must possess the FRCR qualification and be on the Specialist Register/post-CCT at the time of commencement of the post. These requirements ensure that all candidates meet the professional standards expected within the NHS.
Desirable Qualifications
While not essential, having Level 2 Cardiac CT certification (BSCI, SCCT or equivalent) would be advantageous for this role. Previous experience in cardiac CT imaging is also desirable, as this would allow you to fully contribute to our specialized cardiac CT service, which performs approximately 1200-1400 CT coronary angiographies annually.
Required Skills and Experience
You must be a fully accredited clinical radiologist on the GMC specialist register with extensive current general radiological practice appropriate to a district general hospital environment. This includes demonstrating general on-call skills and being fully motivated in contributing to both general and specialized work in the department while maintaining high standards of personal development.
Thoracic Imaging Expertise
Experience in thoracic imaging is essential, particularly in lung cancer, intervention, interstitial lung disease (ILD), and pulmonary hypertension. This specialized knowledge will enable you to provide expert interpretation of complex chest imaging studies and contribute meaningfully to patient care pathways.
Personal Attributes
We are looking for candidates with excellent interpersonal skills who can relate effectively to all members of staff and patients. You must demonstrate a commitment to working within a team and be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, ensuring that your communication is tailored appropriately to the person being addressed. The ability to work under pressure is also essential given the demands of a busy radiology department.
Teaching and Research Opportunities
This role offers opportunities to engage in teaching and research activities. You will be expected to support multidisciplinary teaching and subspecialty training, with experience in teaching SpRs being desirable. Additionally, evidence of delivering research publications and audit is essential, with an interest in developing clinical research and departmental audit being viewed favorably.
Management and Administration
As a consultant, you will need to demonstrate awareness of the audit process, appraisal procedures, principles of Clinical Governance, confidentiality, and data protection. While a proven track record of audit is desirable, the essential requirement is a fundamental understanding of these administrative aspects of medical practice.
