The Opportunity
We have 3 permanent posts available: a full-time post in our schools team based in North locality, a full-time post in our Early Years team based in East locality, and a part-time post (3 days per week) in our schools team based in S/SW localities. Additionally, there are 2 fixed-term posts available working in South and East localities to cover maternity leave, primarily working as part of the schools team in mainstream and some special schools.
Job Responsibilities
As a Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will have the opportunity to:
- Manage your own caseload of Children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) including assessment, diagnosis and intervention
- Deliver care, face to face and virtually, across various locations including education settings, children’s centres, family hubs, health centres and family homes
- Clinically supervise Newly Qualified Practitioners (NQPs) and more junior members of staff
- Work with children and families at home and in early years, mainstream & specialist settings
- Work alongside education and local authority partners to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Develop local networks to build skills in the wider workforce and increase the impact of interventions
Person Specification – Qualifications & Training
Essential:
- First degree level qualification
- HCPC Licence to practice
- Evidence of recent relevant CPD activities in specialist area
- Full Membership of Professional body relevant to service area
Desirable:

>Relevant training in specialist area e.g. post graduate dysphagia qualification, Sensory Integration, neurological rehabilitation
- Relevant training in clinical leadership
Person Specification – Experience
Essential:
- Significant experience of diagnostic assessment and intervention in a relevant specialist area of service
- Significant experience of working as a specialist therapist with children and families in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams
- Experience of managing a mixed and complex caseload of children with developmental disorders and delays
- Experience of managing safeguarding concerns and understanding of local processes
- Experience of delivering support and supervision to colleagues and other professionals
Person Specification – Skills & Knowledge
Essential:
- Knowledge of the needs of diverse social and ethnic populations and impact on service provision
- Competent in supporting data collection and analysis, critiquing research to contribute to service development
- Knowledge of national and political agenda influencing health services and specific service area
Working Pattern and Salary
This position offers flexible working patterns including full-time, part-time, term time hours, and annualised hours to suit your needs. The salary for this Band 6 position ranges from £38,682 to £46,580 per annum, pro rata for part-time roles. All appointments are subject to the Agenda for Change pay conditions.
Professional Registration and Disclosure
Applicants must have current UK professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, requiring a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to verify any previous criminal convictions.
